The Movies

Have you tried Netflix yet? If not, I recommend that you do. I have spent far too much time watching shows and films that I likely wouldn’t otherwise have seen and it has been thoroughly enjoyable. Some of my favourites so far have been the BBC series ‘Jekyll’ and ‘MI-5′ (known in Britain as ‘Spooks’), and a little known crime movie ‘Dead Man Running’. At this very moment I am watching ‘The X-Files: I Want To Believe’, and I’m not sure where I stand on it. That’s the great thing about Netflix though, is you find absolute gems as well as the mediocre.
Additional Note: I have a little later on started watching ‘Doomsday’ and even just ten minutes in it is amazingly bloody and graphic. I haven’t decided if it’s excessive yet, only time will tell.
This past weekend my sister came up for the weekend and her, Mhar and I had a bit of a Harry Potter marathon, watching all of the six previous films in three days. We filled gaps in between movies by playing with the Xbox Kinect we purchased recently. We just have a few games for it at this point, “Kinect Adventures”, “Kinect Sports” and “Your Shape” and they are all good fun. We finished up the weekend by watching the new ‘Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows Pt. 1′ before dropping our visitor back home. The most recent addition to the franchise was very well done and you hardly realize that it was two-and-a-half hours long. It certainly leaves you wanting more, annoyingly ending the movie at a critical juncture like we all knew it was going to. If you liked the others, and particularly the more recent darker tone to them, then you will certainly enjoy this one.

So today was the first day of our pick up for local foods. Since Lyle is at work starting at 4:30, I had the duty of popping to the local farm to pick it all up.
It was set up like a small farmers market with stuff all in bins, and you would grab a “bundle” or some of it had pounds attached to it, but you could pick which ones you wanted.
We have:
- 1 head lettuce
- 1 bag spinach
- 1 set turnips/greens
- 1 celeriac
- onions
- garlic
- potatoes
- carrots
- squash
- apples
- cherry tomatoes
- 1 bundle rosemary.
Mmmm. Sooo yummy!

For those of you who don’t already know, I finally have a job. It may not be very glamourous but at least it’s close to home (literally about a 5 minute walk). I’m effectively starting at the bottom but they know that I have eyes to move up the ladder quickly and they seem to be quite open to this. I have to wait 3 months for the probationary period to end before I can start to apply for other positions. It could potentially be a long three months, and that’s even ‘if’ a position opens up, but we shall see what happens. At least I’m finally getting a paycheque again. In fact, I got my first payment today and it couldn’t have come sooner (not true, I wish I had gotten one sooner… silly expressions). I cannot wait to get rid of these damned student loans of mine that necessitate these measures. Maybe someday in the near future my education will actually be of some use to me.
That’s probably the only major development to report for now. In local small news, Mar and I have signed up for a local produce basket that comes weekly I think it is. It’ll be filled with locally sourced fruit, veg and the like that are also meant to be seasonal. I imagine that through the winter we will be getting a lot of potatoes, squashes and carrots. I may need to be inventive with the recipes I’m choosing!
